ABOUT

                                            Sun Ying and His Music

Sun Ying is a film-scoring composer graduating from Berklee College of Music.  He composes for films, documentaries, and multimedia.  He has created a good number of pieces.  Covering a wide range of themes, his music features attractive melodies, beautiful harmonies, and elaborate orchestrations.  He masters various genres, including classical, soundtrack, electronic, pop, singer, and jazz.  His music is infused with vitality and, yet, delicacy.

Having received a sound and solid training and watched hundreds of films, Sun has a thorough understanding of how a film score works for a film.  He is sensitive to how music can be naturally woven with the film, and he has a strong passion to achieve the expected effect.

Sun was born in Taipei, Taiwan.  His love for music was inspired by his father, who was a music enthusiast and collected thousands of tapes and CDs.  Hence, from very early in his childhood, Sun was exposed to all kinds of music.  He started to learn piano at age 5.  Then, naturally he chose music---music composition to be exact---as his college major at Soochow University, whose Music Department ranks one of the best in Taiwan.  Besides music composition, he also took other courses, such as Western and Asian music history, music theory, music analysis and ethnomusicology.  After achieving a bachelor’s degree of music composition, Sun came to the USA and acquired a diploma in Film Scoring after two and a half years of studying at Berklee College of Music.

At present, Sun lives in LA, working as a freelancer, in the hope of starting his musical career here.  He would also like to participate in teams and to devote himself to collaborative projects.  He would be obliged if you could visit his website, where some of his works are posted.
